How To Move Your Posts From One Blogspot Site To Another (Easy Guide With Pictures)

Moving blog contents from one blog to another on blogspot

Did you just create a new blogspot blog with a better name that well describe your niche and the type of blog you run, and you're looking for a way to move your old blog posts, pages and comments to this new blog without having to copy and paste from the old blog or even ending up duplicating your content on Google search?

Or did you recently discovered that you've written on a number of topics that are somewhat irrelevant to the purpose of you creating a blog, and you're looking for a way to keep them elsewhere so that your blog can look more wholesome to your audience?

Whatever your case may be. I have put everything together in this guide, to walk you through every single step of exporting and importing your content on Google Blogger without effect. This guide has a lot of screenshots that makes is simple and easy to follow.

However, you can also watch this video to see how to export and import your blog content on Blogger's latest version.

Step By Step Guide To Move Your Blog Posts From One Blog To Another On Blogger

1: Sign in to Blogger

Firstly, you'll have to sign in to the blogger account where you are having the blog posts of which you'll like to move. You can do this by logging in with the gmail address that admins that account.

Sign in to your blogger account

2: Click on settings

In case you don't know where the setting tab is, just click on the menu icon on your top left.

3: Locate the "Manage Blog" section of the settings.

You'll find this immediately after the Monetization section, just  before Site Feed.

Locate the manage blog section on your settings

But if you're using the old interface (I mean the old version of Blogger), click on Others in the drop down section of your settings and  locate the part that says "Import and backup"

4: Click on "Back Up Content" and download your blog content

If you're on the latest version of bloggers click on Backup > Download.

But if you're using the old interface, click on Back up content  > Save to your computer.

Doing this will allow you to have the whole of your blog content (i.e. your blog posts, pages and comments) as a file on your device. It'll probably be saved to your documents or download files.

5: Open the blog where you wish to have the blog posts/pages

Assumed you have both blogs on the same gmail, just check the drop down icon and pick the preferred blog just as shown below.

Choose from your multiple blogs by checking the drop down list

But if the preferred blog (i.e. your 2nd blog) was created with another gmail, you'll have to log out first and log in with the appropriate gmail.

To do this, you'll have to click on your top right corner and chose the email address that admins the 2nd account.

Sign out and in with the right gmail account

NB: Your preferred blog is where you'll like to move those blog posts to (I.e. your 2nd blog)

6: Import/Upload The Downloaded File

Now that you've selected your preferred blog; just like you did in step 2 & 3, go to your Settings > Import Content for new interface users. But for old interface users, click on Settings > Others > Import content.

6b. At this point, you'll have to decide whether to have all your blog posts, pages and comments published automatically, or to have them as draft so that it won't be visible to your readers until you finally hit the publish button.

Personally, I'll advice you to have them as draft so that you can review each post again and have them in their best state before publishing. Thence, you can just uncheck the box.

Besides, you don't need mark it "auto" if you'll only be needing a few posts from your 1st blog.

But if you think the best thing is to have all your posts published automatically (i.e. immediately after you upload the file), then simply leave the box ticked and move on to the next step.

NB: Mind you, you'll have to tick the reCAPTCHA pop up to prove to Google that you're not robot – this is different from the auto-publishing box.

reCAPTCHA and auto publishing tab

6c. Click on Import or Import from computer as the case may be..... and choose the blog file you just downloaded. Typically, it should be the first on your download list.

7: Delete the unwanted posts

To this end, if you are able to upload the file successfully, you should be seeing all your old blog posts ( I.e. from your source or 1st blog) in your preferred blog's post editorial section, either as draft or published (depending on your action in step 6b).

So what you have to do now, is to mark every post that is irrelevant to the purpose of the selected blog and delete them. Leave only the ones you're keeping off the other blog.

In the same manner, go to your source blog and delete all the posts that are irrelevant to her main purpose. That is, the articles that are now on your selected/preferred blog.

And as a result of this, you'll be having all your articles where they should. So you can just proceed to edit or publish other imported post on the selected blog.

NB: I will advice you to edit each of your post before publishing them, so that they can look more refreshing and up-to-date.

Besides, you might have linked one or two related post together while they were still on the other blog (I mean your 1st blog). So it's best to review them because they'll still be pointing to that your source blog instead of where they are currently.

For instance, let's assume you've made mention (or linked to) one of your blog post that say "how to create a perfect study enabling environment" while writing on "how to read without getting bored".....

So now that the two posts are on your preferred blog where you think they make sense, and afterwards, got them deleted on the source blog where they are not of much value.

The result will be that, each time your readers are reading on "how to read without getting hired" and click on the linked post – "how to create a perfect study enabling environment"; they'll will be  taken to the address (I.e. URL) of the source blog were they no more exist.

Custom 404 page page

This is because your post is still having the same link you provided while writing the post and because of this, you just have to try to check all your blog posts and edit the URLs in the interlinked post(s).

Meanwhile, you'll also need to rewrite the search description for all your post. Why? Because it is not included in the blog file you downloaded.

Thence, what you'll be having on your blog after importing them include:

• the title of your post and pages

• with their published date and time

• your contents (including your pictures, videos, files and links)

• Labels

• and the comments on your posts and pages.

Everything I've just mentioned will remain exactly the same way they were on your source blog. The only thing that will be different is the current URL of those post.

For instance, a post you just imported from your source blog with the URL: https://YourSourceBlogName.blogspot.com /2020/05/name-of-on-post.html ,

will now be: https://YourPreferredBlogName.blogspot.com /2020/05/name-of-on-post.html on your preferred blog.

Bonus Tips

• If you've shared your blog posts to various social media platform (using your source blog's link), I'll advice you to create a custom 404 page so that when someone click on your shared post on those platforms, they will be able to easily navigate to the current location of those post (i.e. on your preferred blog).

• So, on this ground👆; never should you delete your source blog even if it's of no use again. Else, you'll lose some good number of traffic and loyal readers or even subscribers.

• Furthermore, if any of the articles you've just moved is already indexed on Google (i.e. with the other blog's URL) and it's still ranking for some keywords. I suggest that you take it down using the Google Console Tool and submit the new URL in its stead.

• And lastly, Instead of publishing all the post in a day you can just edit and publish two per day. Mind you, there's nothing wrong with posting everything in a day; it just an idea.

By now, I believe all your worries are gone. Or are you still feeling stuck in one of the steps above? Please kindly let me know about it in the comment section below. I promise to help you out in whatever way I can.
